fine art photographySo the new year is finally here – how did that happen? It seems like the years are flying by at the moment! I’m not massively into resolutions but I do like to think about things I want to achieve in the following year. So for my first post of 2018, I thought I would share with you what I’m hoping for this year.  I know things are likely to change as the year progresses but it’s nice to have something to work towards in 2018.

Market myself

I’m extremely new to the world of photography and I’ve found promoting myself the hardest thing. I’ve had a complete career change and have had to learn everything from scratch. I took a chance at happiness after a personal loss and have challenged myself ever since to learn and improve on my photography skills.  Just establishing an editing style has been an ongoing learning curve but it’s been a real joy seeing things improve every time I pick up my camera.

One of my main anxieties has definitely been putting myself out there. Inviting people to enter my world and judge my work has been a nerve-racking experience. This year I’ve decided just to go for it.  It’s scary but exciting and I hope come 2019, I won’t feel as anxious about marketing myself!

I’ve spent the last few months getting my website up and running and I’m feeling really pleased with how it now looks. It’s taken longer than anticipated as I’ve had a lot to learn, but I feel it’s finally starting to show the kind of photographer I am. I’m now working on building a portfolio so I hope by the end of 2018 I have lots of lovely work to share with you all. It’s going to be fun to see how the website evolves over the course of the year.

Social Media

I’ve just started my social media accounts so hope to engage more on these throughout the year. I’m a huge fan of Instagram and will use this as my main platform. However, I do understand the importance of utilising others as well. I want to try to put some time aside each day to be more active on social media. Whether that’s posting myself or simply interacting with other people. I’m therefore making a pledge to post, like, comment and reply more throughout 2018!

Etsy Shop

This year I really want to open an online platform to sell fine art prints. I’ve toyed with the idea of opening an Etsy shop  and decided this is the year to go for it. I love the idea of joining an established platform for makers and creators. This is an ongoing project but come 2019 I hope to have joined this very special community – Watch this space!

What are your goals for 2018? I’d love to hear them!
